Twin's Birthday Cakes

These two cakes were for a set of twins. One all boy and one all girl! Which is obvious in the cakes. These were so fun to make!

Pirate Ship Cake

Pirate ship cake that I was very pleased with. I am suprised how nice it turned out. I could have kept adding things to it too. It's a chocolate cake with chocolate mint frosting and marshmallow fondant accents and fluffy buttercream frosting as the water. This is a mixture of ideas I saw on the internet and I love the pirate on the plank with the sharks swimming down below. I made the pirates out of fondant. I'm still new at shaping objects out of fondant, so they aren't perfect but cute!

Hello Kitty Ballerina Birthday Cake

A Hello Kitty cake for the birthday girl. I got some of this idea off of a cake I saw on the internet, although I added a few more elements but the cake on the internet was so much more polished than mine. It's a strawberry cake with fluffy buttercream frosting and marshmallow fondant accents. I did make the Hello Kitty and My Melody by hand. Also the sign is made of fondant as well. This is the first time I've made signs for the birthday cakes and I really like doing it this way because I do not like to write messages on my cakes sometimes because it takes away from the cake. I love this alternative and will probably use it alot now. Oh, and Hello Kitty's face isn't quite right either. But she'll do :-)

Three Girl Birthday Cakes in One Day

Three birthday cakes for two birthday girls. The big one and the Fancy Nancy were for a four year old girl and the care bear for a one year old. I was excited to get to finally do some girl cakes as I've mostly done cakes for boys :-)

Sunshine Bear Miniature Cake

A "smash" cake for a 1st birthday girl. It's a devil's food cake with fluffy buttercream frosting. Simple & cute sunshine bear cake.

Red & Orange Butterfly & Flower Cake

I really love the colors in this cake! I had specific instructions from the birthday girl to do red & orange butterflies, flowers and a sun, also with grass and this is what I came up with. I hope I executed it well :-) It's a chocolate cake with fluffy buttercream frosting and marshmallow fondant accents. It's a cutesy cake!

Fancy Nancy Miniature Cake

A miniature Fancy Nancy cake for a young girl's fourth birthday with the family. I did a bigger one (red & orange butterflies & flowers) for her party. This is vanilla cake with strawberry filling and fluffy buttercream frosting. The stripes are marshmallow fondant. I think this cake is darling EXCEPT for her face. I'm thinking she's looking like one of the chipmunk girls. I definitely need some practice on faces.

Peace, Love & Happiness Graduation Cake

This is an 8th grade graduation cake for a girl who's motto of life is "peace, love & happiness." The school mascot of a viking is placed on top for school spirit! It's a marble cake with fluffy buttercream frosting and marshmallow fondant accents. I had to go two tier because I don't own any sheet cake pans yet. And honestly, I think rounds are so much prettier anyway :-)

Elegant Scroll Birthday Cake

Cake for my father-in-law's birthday and Scott's Aunt's birthday celebrated together at Alpine Park as a family. It's a yellow cake with raspberry cream filling and fluffy buttercream frosting. I had barely any time to work on this one as it was a busy weekend in the Nelson household. The picture is showing a ripple at the bottom of the cake and I don't know why. I looked at the cake several times to found out why and there was no ripple, it was perfectly straight. Crazy camera! I love doing scrolls. I only hope I can get much, much better at them!
